Platja des Caragol
Platja des Caragol is situated at seven kilometres from ses Salines, and it is the most southern beach of Majorca, together with Cala en Tugores, with a rocky strip between them. The beach can be reached from the lighthouse of ses Salines, walking for 1,5 kilometres along the sea.
Es Caragol has white sand, dunes for over one kilometre toward the interior, it is not crowded at all and it is adjacent to the small island of Can Curt toward west and sa Punta Negra on the eastern side, where you can see an escar (artificial dry dock), used by fishers, and a jetty for the passenger launches.
The coast here is not very high, with slopes that range between 0,5 and two metres, under a sandbank which goes toward the sea for 200 metres, open to southeast-south-southwest and full of small islands.
These characteristics of the coast are the reason why the navigators should be careful, keeping an eye on the depth and remaining at half a mile from the coast. Nevertheless, it is possible to anchor on a sandy ground with some rocks, with a depth that ranges from three to six metres. The nearest port facilities are located at Port Colònia de Sant Jordi, at 4,2 nautical miles.
On es Caragol you will see some bunkers of the Civil War and nearby there is the finca sa Vall, private property of the March family, with a coastal strip which belongs to this Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès (3.778 hectares up to 68 metres above the sea level).
Cala Comtessa or Comptessa is situated at nine kilometres from Palma, between Punta des Bufador and Platja d'Illetes. This beach, es Fortí and Illetes are known as Illetes, and this cove is the smallest one amongst these three.
This u-shaped and small sea inlet finishes on a beach which is surrounded by pine trees and low rocky areas on the sides, which are also used by the visitors to sunbathe. In front of the coast you can see Illot de Caleta.
The marine and underwater conditions are excellent for anchoring boats in Cala Comtessa on a sandy ground with seaweed, where the depth ranges from two to three metres, but you should avoid passing between Illot de sa Caleta and Illot de s'Estenedor because of the sandbanks in this area.
The nearest port facilities are located at Puerto Portals, at 1,3 nautical miles, which is one of the best infrastructures of the Balearic archipelago and Europe, where you can find some of the most beautiful and expensive boats of the Mediterranean basin, some of the best restaurants of the Balearic Islands and some popular night clubs.
The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. The private car can be left on a free parking area next to the beach. There are some stairs that take to the beach. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located at 300 metres.
Can Pere Antoni
Platja de Can Pere Antoni is situated at two kilometres east from Palma, just in front of the palm trees of Paseo Marítimo and the impressive silhouette of the gothic cathedral of Palma (La Seu) and the Episcopal palace.
The urban sandy area ends with breakwaters on both sides. Winds of the second and third quadrant permitting, the water is quiet enough to take a bath and it is the best moment to anchor a boat on a ground of sand and seaweed. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic Portitxol, at 0,1 nautical miles east.
The fact that Can Pere Antoni is just in front of the maritime façade of Palma explains that it is and urban beach with a massive influx of local people. You can park for free in the surroundings, but the area next to the beach is a pay-parking (ORA or public parking areas). You are recommended to take the public transport to reach this beach, the bus stop is at some hundred metres. Another option to reach the beach is walking or using the cycling lane to enjoy the beautiful view over the bay of Palma, el Parc de la Mar and the skyline of the buildings of the old part of Palma. The inhabitants of Palma and the tourists use the Paseo Marítimo, which goes from Porto Pi to Ciudad Jardín, for athletic and wheel sports.
