Guayedra beach
Nudist beach in north Gran Canaria
One of Gran Canaria’s most beautiful protected landscapes with spectacular geology, flora, fauna and archaeological sites as well as pretty Guayedra beach and superb sunsets. Close to Agaete town the Guayedra valley is accessed by road from the Agaete Valley. Its dark lava, many palm trees and the spectacular views of the west coast cliffs and across the sea to Teide volcano make the walk down to Guayedra beach a treat. It’s one of the island most attractive nudist beaches.
Swimming close to Agaete with a backdrop of valleys and mountains
Most people walk to Guayedra beach from the west coast road although you can drive some way down a track and even reach the beach in a 4WD vehicle. Many people choose to walk from Agaete although the road is windy and has blind corners. The walk through valleys and over ridges takes you to a beach that is sandy most of the year and has lots of stone shelters. The beach is at its sandiest at low tide during the summer. The sea here can be rough but is normally perfect for a relaxing dip.
Anfi del Mar
A beach where the water is like a swimming pool
Sheltered Anfi del Mar beach in the south of Gran Canaria has fine, white sand and water so calm that it has barely a ripple. It’s a great family beach as the kids can always search for seashells or play pirates by the tranquil water.
Supermarkets and cafés by a family beach
Anfi Beach boasts a full range of services from kayaks and pedalos to lounger and parasol rental, meaning that you can do whatever you want within earshot of the ocean. Right by the sand there’s a shopping centre with plenty of cafés and a supermarket where you can buy food and drink to enjoy on the sand.
Rural turism
The wealth of natural surroundings in Gran Canaria was rewarded in 2005 with 46% of its land surface area and sea
being declared a Biosphere Reserve. With this award came recognition by Unesco of the fine state of preservation of
protected areas on the island, its sustainable development linked to traditional activities in smaller towns and
villages, and the uniqueness of its local flora and fauna.
All these factors, which have produced a varied landscape of stunning beauty, have turned Gran Canaria into a natural setting for rambling, playing adventure sports and discovering endemic species that are unknown in
other places around the world. The fauna that inhabits the island is completely harmless. The lizards, the wide
range of bird species including the blue chaffinch, marine mammals and fish can be marvelled at all year round,
while visitors can breathe in the fresh aromas of laurel tree forests and stoll around the palm trees, cardoon
plants or towering pine trees at the foot of the mountains. The range of accommodation includes rural cottages and
hotels spread around the whole of the island. All the biodiversity that Gran Canaria boasts can also be seen
from its network of viewpoints, with 31 amazing balconies that provide the finest panoramic views.
